"YouBroadband gave me genuine industry confidence. Walking down Kabiria street knowing I helped splice the fiber cables that power local businesses is the proudest milestone of my life."

What I Learned in the Field

Before my attachment at YouBroadband, fiber optics was just abstract textbook diagrams. During my 3 months in Kabiria, I learned how light signals actually propagate through single-mode fiber, how to interpret optical decibel loss on an OTDR, and how to splice fiber cores cleanly under 0.02 dB loss. Most importantly, I learned how to troubleshoot client connectivity with patience and technical rigor.

Hands-on Technical Experience

I participated directly in terminating 48-core aerial fiber distribution cables, installing optical distribution frames (ODF) at the central cabinet, and configuring client ONTs with VLAN separation for voice and data. I also joined the NOC team to handle live support tickets.

Career Goals & Next Steps

To achieve my CCNA and MikroTik Certified Network Associate (MTCNA) certifications and lead fiber infrastructure deployment projects in East Africa.
